The Corralejo Margarita Challenge is a national cocktail competition organised by world-famous TEQUILA company Corralejo, and this
was the 5th edition & it was all about Experiment, Experience & Elevation. The challenge was given to the bartenders of 4 Zones(States) : Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi. More than 370 applications were received, out of which participants were shortlisted for the regional rounds & further for the big battle that happened at Agni, The Park on May 2, 2019. The cocktail competition was judged by an esteemed panel of judges including the celebrity chef, Ranveer Brar.
Competing against the bartenders from all around the four cities, Piyush Gouchwal representing Playground, JW Mariott, New Delhi won the Corralejo Margarita Challenge 2019.
Story of the Winner : PIYUSH GOUCHWAL
Piyush is born & brought up in New Delhi. He pursued Bsc Honors in Hotel and Restuarant management from IIMT, Oxford Brooke’s University. He choose bartending as it’s different & vital for creativity growth. The passion of being behind the bar & creating cocktails drove him to pursue bartending further & he also pursued Maison, a unique and innovative bartender training programme created for bartenders by bartenders for Pernod Ricard.
Piyush has been working at one of the most popular hotel bar in New Delhi, Playground at JW Marriott for almost two years now. His limited yet resourceful experience in the industry has taught him how important it is to understand the in-depth knowledge & science behind mixing.
The Margarita Challenge was Piyush’s first cocktail competition & he credits his mentors, Amit singh Karki, Bhagwan Singh, Sahil Dawra, Ian Sedwell and Tzeka Furman for winning the ultimate title and an all expense paid trip to the land of Tequila ‘MEXICO’.
Story of the Winning Cocktail
TheCocktailStory of the winning cocktail, Noble Margarita is dedicated to the most underrated fruit in India, ‘pear’ which is considered as a symbol of nobility. Thus, adding a noble touch to a margarita, Piyush created his own version.
– 30 ml Pear cardamom, Vanilla pod & Apple cider shrub
– 60 ml Corralejo Blanco
– 2 drops Saline water
– 30 ml Lime juice
All the ingredients shaken together with ice & double strained in a coupe glass.
Garnish the rim of the glass with dehydrated pear and cinnamon powder dusting
